A GROWING MARKET WITH SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT POTENTIAL
Angola is one of Africa’s largest economies and a country with substantial natural resources, a growing consumer market, and significant opportunities for international investment. With a population of more than 35 million and a 2025 GDP of approximately US$122 billion, Angola offers U.S. companies an important platform for expanding their presence in Africa.
The Angolan economy is undergoing a significant transformation. While oil and gas remain the backbone of the economy, accounting for roughly a quarter to one-third of GDP and the overwhelming majority of exports, the Government of Angola is pursuing economic diversification through investment in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, transportation, healthcare, tourism, technology, and financial services.
A STRATEGIC ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION
Angola recorded strong economic expansion in 2024, with real GDP growth of approximately 4.4%, supported by the recovery of the oil sector as well as growth in agriculture, fisheries, diamond mining, commerce, and other non-oil activities. Growth moderated in 2025 to approximately 3.1%, while the International Monetary Fund projects continued moderate growth in 2026, with non-oil sectors expected to remain an important source of economic activity.
The Government’s economic agenda places increasing emphasis on creating a more diversified and resilient economy, encouraging private investment, strengthening domestic production, improving infrastructure, and developing value-added industries. This transition is creating opportunities for international companies with technology, capital, expertise, and innovative solutions.
KEY SECTORS FOR U.S. COMPANIES
Oil & Gas and Energy
Angola remains a major oil producer and continues to attract international investment in offshore exploration, production, oilfield services, natural gas, refining, petrochemicals, and energy infrastructure. Recent offshore discoveries and continued investment in mature fields demonstrate the continuing importance of the sector.
Agriculture & Agribusiness
Agriculture represents one of Angola’s greatest opportunities for diversification. The country possesses substantial arable land and agricultural potential but remains a significant food importer. Opportunities exist in commercial farming, irrigation, agricultural machinery, seeds, fertilizers, storage, food processing, cold-chain logistics, livestock, fisheries, and agricultural technology.
Mining & Critical Minerals
Beyond oil and diamonds, Angola has significant mineral resources and growing interest in developing its mining sector. The country’s location and the development of the Lobito Corridor create additional opportunities for mining, logistics, mineral processing, and related infrastructure.
Infrastructure & Transportation
Angola has substantial infrastructure needs a cross roads, railways, ports, airports, water systems, housing, logistics, and urban development. The Lobito Corridor is particularly strategic, linking Angola’s Atlantic coast with major mineral-producing areas in the region and creating opportunities extending well beyond transportation.
Power & Renewable Energy
Expanding reliable electricity access is an important component of Angola’s development agenda. Opportunities exist in power generation, transmission and distribution, solar energy, mini-grids, energy efficiency, and other technologies supporting industrial and rural development. Infrastructure and access to electricity remain important constraints to broader economic growth.
Healthcare & Life Sciences
Angola is seeking to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, medical services, pharmaceutical supply chains, medical technology, and specialized healthcare capabilities. U.S. companies can contribute through equipment, hospital development, digital health, pharmaceuticals, training, and healthcare management.
Manufacturing & Industrial Development
The Government is encouraging greater domestic production and value addition. Opportunities include construction materials, food and beverage processing, consumer goods, industrial equipment, chemicals, packaging, and manufacturing technologies.
Digital Economy & Technology
Angola’s expanding digital economy offers opportunities in telecommunications, fintech, cybersecurity, digital government, cloud services, data centers, education technology, and business-process solutions.
WHY ANGOLA — WHY NOW?
Angola’s economic transformation creates a particularly attractive environment for companies seeking first-mover opportunities in high-growth and underdeveloped sectors. The country needs international capital, technology, equipment, managerial expertise, and strategic partnerships to accelerate diversification and strengthen domestic production.
The U.S. Department of Commerce identifies opportunities for U.S. companies in areas including oil and gas technology, electrical and agricultural equipment, transportation infrastructure, marine and healthcare technologies, and airport management services.
At the same time, Angola’s proximity to major regional markets and its Atlantic ports—including the strategic Port of Lobito—enhance its potential as a commercial and logistics hub for Southern and Central Africa.
A STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITY FOR U.S.–ANGOLA PARTNERSHIPS
The U.S.–Angola Business Mission provides an opportunity for American companies, investors, and service providers to engage directly with Angolan government officials, business leaders, investors, and potential local partners.
The mission will focus on identifying concrete commercial opportunities, establishing business-to-business relationships, exploring investment projects, and developing long-term partnerships in sectors aligned with Angola’s economic diversification priorities.
For U.S. companies, Angola represents more than an oil market—it is an emerging diversification story with significant opportunities in agriculture, mining, infrastructure, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, technology, and logistics.
